Featuring Lata Mangeshkar

From Overseas India - Bharat Ki Dharkan is a Hindi/English program broadcasting every Sunday morning from 5 to 6 hosted by DJ Sunny Francis.

In this week's edition of the program, Sunny picks-up Lata Mangeshkar as featured artist. An actress Vidya Balan reportedly attended the ceremony of Deenanath Mangeshkar Smruti Pratishthan Awards held last motnth, and she wore saree gifted by Lata Mangeshkar.

Lata Mangeshkar died from multiple organ dysfunction syndrome on 6 February 2022, at the age of 92. She had undergone 28 days of constant treatment for pneumonia and COVID-19.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met her family and Asha Bhosle after paying tribute to Lata Mangeshkar in Mumbai. The Government of India announced a two-day period of national mourning and that the national flag would fly at half-mast from 6 to 7 February throughout India out of respect for her.

In this week's edition of the program, Sunny picks-up an actress Aruna Irani who turned to be 76 years old last Wednesday. She has acted in over 500 films throughout Hindi, Kannada, Marathi and Gujarati cinema, playing mostly supporting and character roles. She has won two Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actress. In January 2012, Irani was honoured with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award at the 57th Filmfare Awards.

And Jagjit Singh is the featured artist. We play both from soundtracks and private albums. Let's start the final day of Golden Week holidays with calm music of Jagjit Singh...!

From Overseas India - Bharat Ki Dharkan is a Hindi/English program broadcasting every Sunday morning from 5 to 6 hosted by DJ Sunny Francis.

In this week's edition of the program, Sunny picks-up a music director and singer S.D.Burman. He composed the soundtracks for over 100 movies, including Bengali films and Hindi. His son, R. D. Burman, was also a celebrated music composer for Bollywood films.

Here is trivia about S.D.Burman:

* Besides composing, Sachin 'Karta' (his nickname in the music industry) has also lent his voice to 14 Hindi and 13 Bengali film songs.

* Burman comes from a royal background. His father Nabadwipchandra Dev Burman was from the royal family of Tripura while his mother was from the royal family of Manipur.

* In the late 1920s, Sachin Dev Burman used to worked as a radio singer on Calcutta Radio Station.

* In 1934, he won a gold medal to Bengal Music Conference in Kolkata for his thumri rendition.

* Within a decade of being in Mumbai, Burman was fed up with the materialistic point of view of the industry. He decided to go back to Kolkata but changed his mind and stayed back.

* For the song 'Mere Sapnon Ki Raani' in the movie Aradhana (1969), SD asked his son Rahul Dev Burman to play the famous mouth organ tune.

* After rehearsing for one of the most famous songs of his life, 'Badi Sooni Sooni' sung by Kishore Kumar for Mili, Burman went into coma and sadly, did not recover.
