Filipino Lesson (Hunyo 11)[6.11 tue]

The aired program is being rebroadcasted for a week in radio Radiko, an internet-based
radio (https://radiko.jp):
radiko.jp/share/?sid=CCL&t=20240611050000

Every 2nd week of the month, our program gives a friendly and easy-to-learn Filipino
lesson. We dedicate the program to all who would like to learn the Filipino language,
particularly to those of Filipino descent.

Key Words (JUNE 2024):
Kasambahay – House helper, housemaid (家政婦)
Kasama – together with, companion (伴侶、同伴者); include (~を含む)
Bahay – house (家)

N: Kasambahay.

Dialog in English (JUNE 2024):
N; Come in, Cindy! It’s good that you didn’t lose your way coming here.
C: We found your house easily! It’s near the gate and the guard showed us the way.
N: How many are with you?
C: They’re five of them… my niece and her two children, our driver and a servant.
N: Cindy, they are no longer called “servants” because of Republic Act 10361.
C: Is that so?  I haven’t gone home for a long time so I didn’t know. How do you call them now?
N:  House helper or housemaid. Sen. Bong Revilla said that it’s too colonial minded and degrading to use the terms “alila, atsay, chimay and muchacho “
C: That’s true.
N: There are also laws about their wages and day off.
C: That’s good.
N: Here’s your buko juice. Thanks, Charo!
C: Your house helper is tall and beautiful! She looks like a model!
N: No! She’s the daughter of our neighbor. My niece plays basketball with her. The coconuts are from their yard.
C: So the house with many coconut trees in front of yours is theirs!
N: The design of their house is unique. The walls are made from the shell of coconut husks and the roof from dried coconut leaves.
C; I noticed! The design of their coconut house is great!
